In America The early performance arts achievements of the young Maureen FitzSimons (who we know as Maureen O'Hara) would definitely have put her in the category of child prodigies. However, for an Irish girl who was surrounded by gifted parents and extended families, these qualities were normal. Maureen made her entrance into this caring haven on August 17 1920 in Ranelagh (a suburb of Dublin), Ireland. Marguerita L. FitzSimons had a successful contralto. Charles FitzSimons managed a Dublin-based firm and also owned a stake of "The Shamrock Rovers," an eminent Irish soccer team. Maureen was the third of six FitzSimons children. Peggy, Florrie, Charles B. Fitzsimons, Margot Fitzsimons and James O'Hara completed this beautiful family. Maureen was a great athlete and was a gruelling athlete in games as a child. This natural interest and her talent in performing was astonishing. She won almost all Feis Award for Theater and Drama the country could provide. When she turned 14, she was accepted by the Abbey Theater accepted her and permitted her to pursue her passion for classical theatre and opera singing.
